Snooker History

Alliance Snooker is a family owned business and one of the few remaining table manufacturers and restorers in the UK.  Alliance Snooker is widely respected throughout the trade for its fine quality workmanship and traditional manufacturing techniques. Mr Dave Connolly, the Managing Director of the company has over 40 years experience working in the industry starting as an apprentice billiard table maker in 1961 with a local table manufacturer he eventually worked his way up to workshop manager before forming his own company in 1980. With this experience comes a vast knowledge of the traditions of billiards and snooker table manufacturing and renovation.

The company initially concentrated on table servicing and recovering but with the growth in the game in the 1980's we acquired our present retail premises and began selling tables supplied from other manufacturers. With no control over the production methods and quality of the finished product it was quickly decided that for our own peace of mind, to begin manufacturing ourselves as soon as possible.
The production process is now carried out totally in-house with dedicated leg turning and polishing capabilities. The quality of our tables is widely acknowledged by other billiard companies and we feel that there is no greater compliment to our workmanship than to manufacture tables for other renowned billiard companies, we currently supply our tables or supply components to more than a dozen companies throughout the U.K. and Europe as well as numerous private clients throughout the rest of the world.

With the general over production of tables and decline in popularity of the sport over the early 1990's it was necessary to close our main manufacturing factory and move production to our present location at Edge Lane, where we still carry out all the stages of manufacturing in-house but on a smaller scale. We feel this has had its benefits in some ways with customers actually able to see their table being made, they feel much more secure in the outcome of the finished product.  We actively encourage customers to have a look into our workshops, something not every company does unless it has confidence in its products.
